Gibson SG Jr. 1963

DSC03667

This very cool Gibson SG was brought to my shop by a very good customer to show me. As far as I can tell from the serial number I believe it to be a 1963. Gibson serial numbering can be difficult to understand… an understatement… but 1963 does work well with the client’s memory of how long he has had the guitar.

Although some things are no longer original such as the bridge the original bridge/tailpiece is in the case. The pick guard and pick-up are also not original but on a positive side the guitar is in excellent condition with a very straight neck, very little fret wear, and a current set-up including intonation that is very close to ideal.

The nut is also the original and “painted in” as Gibson was and remains well known for.

The tuners are original as well with early plastic (and yellowing) knobs. All in all this is an excellent example, sands the non-original few parts, of a rock-solid Kalamazoo Gibson SG Jr.

Many thanks to my customer for bringing this very cool old guitar to me for a look!
